The Department
was established in the year 1979 and has an annual intake of 120 students at
the undergraduate level. The department offers two post graduate courses in
the areas of Structural Engineering and Environmental Engineering with an
intake of 26 and 18 respectively. The department is also recognized by VTU as
Research Centre for pursuing M. Sc. (Engineering)/Ph. D. programmes. The
department is headed by Dr. Sidramappa V. Itti. All the Staff members have
completed their Post Graduation in different streams of Civil Engineering.
Some of the Staff members are pursuing their Ph.D. The Staff members have
published their papers in International and National Journals and
Conferences. The total Number of publications of the Staff members has
crossed 275. Salient Features: · 20 faculty members with 2 Professors, 5 Associate
Professors, 12 Assistant Professors and1 Lecturer. · Published more than 250 technical papers in National and
International Journals/Conferences · The Department has well equipped laboratories namely
Structural, Geotechnical, Environmental, Hydraulics, Transportation, Material
Testing , Geology, Survey, Prototype and Model Testing Lab and Computer Aided
Design Engineering with the latest equipments. · Five national and state level conferences and 3 Tech
Fests organized. · 95% of passing in UG and 100% in PG for the last 5 years
with 3 University Ranks. · Doctoral Programme : 5 awarded and 6 are pursuing. · Dr. R.V. Raikar is a visting Professor to National Chung
Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan. He is a recipient of Fellowship from
World Association for Sedimentation and Erosion Research (WASER), Beijing to
attend study tour of the Three Gorges Project, Yichang, China. · Consultancy services in all fields of civil engineering
generates an annual average revenue of Rs. 40 Lakhs. · Social Activities: Training technical and non technical
people in environmental protection and health. · Major recruiters: L&T (ECC), MWH Pune, Mindtree, Punj
Loyd and Renuka Sugars Pvt. Ltd. Rank to University:
The Civil Engineering Association (CEA) was
founded in the year 1993 and has grown gigantically and is conducting invited
lectures, technical tours, technical exhibitions, National
Level Workshops / Seminars etc. Here the students learn leadership
qualities along with organizing skills. In addition to central library, the
Department has its own library with a collection of over 423 Titles and 714
volumes. |

The Department
has well equipped laboratories. The latest surveying equipment like Total
Station, Power level, Auto level, Color plotter; NDT equipments like Rebound
hammer, Corrosion analyzer, Microcover
meter; Highway/pavement quality testing equipments like Road Roughometer,
Bitumen core cutter; Environment engineering equipment like Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometer; Plate load test, SPT, field CBR etc. in Geo technical engg;
Data acquisition systems, X-Y recorder, Digital UTM. CTM etc. in material
testing centre. All
these modern equipment are used to broaden the level of knowledge of the
students. The department is taking
up Consultancy Assignments in almost all the fields of Civil Engineering. The major laboratories of department are § Center for Environmental studies § Computer Center § Geo – Technical Engineering Lab § Geology Lab § Hydraulics Lab § Material Testing Lab § Survey Lab § Transportation Lab § Prototype and Model Testing Lab The Civil Engineering Association (CEA) was founded in
the year 1993 and has grown gigantically and is conducting invited lectures,
technical tours, technical exhibitions, National Level Workshops /
Seminars etc. Here the students learn leadership qualities along with
organizing skills. In addition to central library, the Department has its own
library with a collection of over 300 Books and 8 Journals. |
