The department was established in the year 2000 to meet the ever growing demands for Telecommunication Engineers in this era of mobile communication and applications. Department has 10 well qualified faculty members (01- Prof, 03 - Asst Prof, 6-Lecturers), and three technical staff. The department has intake of 40.

     The department has well qualified staff in different fields of Electronics and Telecommunications.

Two faculty members of the department have registered for PhD programme under V.T.U., in the field of VLSI & Biomedical Engineering respectively.

 

The Department of Telecommunication Engineering  offers teaching in the broad areas of:  

 

Digital Communication.

Microwave Engineering.

Satellite Communication.

Mobile Communication.

Digital Signal Processing.

VLSI and Embedded Systems.

Computer Networks.

Optical Fiber Communication

Microcontrollers

The burning fuel of the department in the journey of its success is qualified staff, who  are specialized in the field of Telecommunication, Electronics and VLSI Systems. Apart from this, all the staff members actively participate in various workshops and present papers in many national & international conferences.

 

The department has well equipped laboratories to meet the requirements of VTU’s latest syllabus. The laboratory facilities include 35 computers with latest configuration and internet connectivity, Advanced Communication Kits, , Micro-controller (8051) kits,89C61X2 Flash Programmable Evaluation Board, Optical Fiber Communication Kits, Microwave Communication setup, TEXAS (code composer) DSP kits. The latest addition to this is VHDL-Verilog lab equipments which include Universal Multivendor kits with FPGA and CPLD Development Boards and Microwave Lab equipments viz: Microstrip components and Microwave sources and receivers.

 

The department encourages & promotes student activities. The department association 'SATEL' Staff & Students Association for Telecommunication Engineering conducts various curricular, co-curricular & cultural activities for students. The department has its own library to distribute books amongst students. The department undertakes many projects for the social need. Many final year projects are sponsored by KSCST (Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology). The department arranges live demonstrations of the various projects completed by our students.

 

 “VIBRATIONS” an Informal Forum for student activities helps them to develop organizing skills, leadership qualities and management of events.

 

The department conducts many activities for students to train them for  Campus Recruitment. Personality Development & Career Guidance courses are regularly conducted every semester/year to motivate the students & prepare them for placement.

 

The department has excellent placement records, in Indian Army and in various companies like Tejas Networks, Robert Bosch, TCS, INFOSYS, CTS, CARITOR, HCL, Mindtree and WIPRO etc…

The placement Records of the department for the year 2009-10 & 2010-11 batches is extremely satisfactory with a success rate of above 90%.

The students of this department have bagged Championships of VTU in athletics, & have been VTU BLUES in sports & cultural.

Two days workshop “Minchu” on Keil Compiler Hands-on training was conducted on 1st & 2nd May 2010. 45 students and 13 Staff members attended the program. Basics of Microcontrollers, need for Integrated Development Environment using Keil Compiler including Hands-on Training, prepared the participants to explore the capabilities of Microcontrollers.

 

Prof. R.R.Maggavi. from Telecommunication Dept. and Prof. V.R.Bagali. from E&C Dept. were the resource persons.


 

 

The first Volume of department magazine “DISHA-towards excellence” is brought out in the department for  the academic year 2010-11. It is an attempt to showcase the talents of students & staff in literary & technical fields.

 

             Digital Library is setup in the department to help the students in learning beyond the syllabus.

 

            Two days National Level Tech fest “DHEESHNA - 2011” comprising many curricular, co-curricular & cultural events was held  on 30th April & 1st May 2011
